     Weekend and Day-Long Retreats

The Grotto

Assisi Heights in Rochester:

We've had weekend retreats here at least once or twice per year since 2001. The serene setting, situated on 100 wooded acres of rolling hills, is conducive to meditation and introspection. It's a wonderful place for spiritual renewal.  We hope that you enjoy the pictures!

The Assisi Heights Canticle Building from afar.  It resembles the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Italy.  Here is a close-up view of the entrance and from one of the hiking trails.

The monastery has peaceful courtyard in the heart of the Assisi Canticle Building including a statue of St. Francis of Assisi.

There are many peaceful hiking trails conducive to introspection replete with trees under which one feels like meditating.  One very peaceful setting for meditating is known as "the grotto."

In addition to several statues of St. Francis, there are other statues that inspire including: St. Theresa of Avila, Our Lady of Beauraing Belgium, Mary, mother of Jesus, and many other saints

All of the meals are served in a beautiful large dining room.

The simple sleeping rooms contain the basics.

During our May 2001 weekend retreat we converted the "Sun Center" room into a chapel for our meditations.  Retreatants were registered before entering the chapel.

During our May 2002 weekend retreat we had a nice large meditation room.  We set up a bookroom area in the same room.  We brought many of the old SRF magazines for devotees to read.

Dunrovin Retreat Center at Marine on St. Croix:

On August 21, 1999 we had an all-day retreat at the Dunrovin Retreat Center on the banks of the St. Croix at Marine on St. Croix. It was a very nice setting with quiet and spacious grounds.

Lyman Lodge hiking trail

YWCA Lyman Lodge on Lake Minnetonka:

During the summers of 1983-88, several all-day retreats were held during the summer at the YWCA Lyman Lodge Conference Center on Lake Minnetonka, west of the Twin Cities.  Each of the retreats had periods of meditations, typically with kirtan accompaniment.  We also had periods of free time when devotees could either walk the peaceful hiking paths through the woods surrounding our cabin or perhaps meditate or read on the shores of beautiful Lake Minnetonka. Several all-day Christmas meditations were also held at the Lyman Lodge.

This is a view of entrance to the Lyman Lodge cabin we used during our summer retreat in August, 1986.  We actually used this same cabin for all of our retreats and All-Day Christmas meditations.

There were many hiking trails through the woods on the Lyman Lodge grounds.

Here is the inside of the cabin which we converted into a chapel.
